BRYANTS FINISH IN THE TOP 5 AT THE ALL AMERICAN
QUARTER HORSE CONGRESS
THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 16TH THROUGH THE 22ND PROVED TO BE A GREAT
ONE FOR CLAYTON BRYANT AND SHARON BRYANT IN COLOMBUS, OHIO. BOTH
OF THEIR HORSES, PROMISES TO DASH, AKA SQUIRREL, AND BF SHENANIGAN,
AKA SKINNY, RESPECTIVELY, COMPETED IN WHAT SOME CLAIM TO BE ONE
OF THE TOUGHEST BARREL RACES IN THE NATION; THE ALL-AMERICAN QUARTER
HORSE CONGRESS. IN THIS COMPETITION, THE BEST HORSE AND JOCKEY
COMBINATIONS GATHER TOGETHER FROM ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES IN
ORDER TO COMPETE FOR THAT COVETED FIRST PLACE TITLE. CLAYTON BRYANT
IS NO STRANGER TO THIS BARREL RACE AS YEARS AGO, BELOVED HORSE,
HOT SHOT REY, WON, SETTING AN ARENA RECORD THAT WAS NEVER BROKEN
UNTIL THE PATTERN WAS EVENTUALLY CHANGED.
THIS YEAR, THERE WERE 434 1ST AND 2ND GO RUNS COMBINED. EACH HORSE
AND JOCKEY COMBINATION WERE RUNNING IN ORDER TO GET BACK INTO THE
FINALS WHICH WOULD BE COMPOSED OF ONLY 20 COMPETITORS. IN THE 1ST
GO, SHARON’S BF SHENANIGAN AND JOCKEY, CODY BAUSERMAN, LAYED
DOWN A NICE RUN TO PLACE 2ND IN THE GO ROUND MONEY, WHILE CLAYTON’S
PROMISES TO DASH HAD BAD LUCK AND KNOCKED A BARREL. IN THE 2ND
GO, CLAYTON’S HORSE STILL NEEDED TO QUALIFY AND THE PRESSURE
WAS ON. JOCKEY, ADAM ROPER PULLED THROUGH AND QUALIFIED SQUIRREL
BACK WITH THE 5TH FASTEST TIME OUT OF 434 RUNS COMBINED, TO ALSO
BE BACK IN THE TOP 20 FINALS. OUT OF ALL 434 RUNS, 2 OF THE TOP
20 QUALIFYING HORSES IN THE ALL AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE CONGRESS
WERE APPOMATTOX, VIRGINIANS.
ON SUNDAY, THE 20 HORSES IN THE FINALS WERE RAN IN SLOWEST TO
FASTEST QUALIFYING TIME ORDER FROM THE PREVIOUS 1ST AND 2ND GOS.
SHARON’S HORSE, SKINNY, RAN 13TH AND WAS ONE OF THE 6 HORSES
TO BREAK INTO THE 14 SECONDS IN TIME, RUNNING A 14.955. CLAYTON’S
HORSE, SQUIRREL, RAN 15TH AND HAD A GREAT RUN GOING UNTIL THE 2ND
BARREL WHERE SQUIRREL CUT A LITTLE TOO CLOSE AND JOCKEY, ADAM ROPER
HAD TO SET IT UP, IN ORDER TO NOT BE DISQUALIFIED. HE RAN A 15.064,
ALMOST BREAKING INTO THE 14S.
IN THE END, THE CHAMPION’S FINALS RUN TIMES WERE AVERAGED
WITH THEIR 1ST OR 2ND GO QUALIFYING TIME. SHARON BRYANT’S
HORSE ENDED UP 4TH PLACE AND CLAYTON BRYANT’S HORSE ENDED
UP 5TH PLACE. SHARON’S HORSE’S AVERAGE WAS (4) ONE
THOUSANDS FASTER THAN CLAYTON’S HORSE. THAT’S CUTTING
IT CLOSE. ONCE AGAIN, THE BRYANT TEAM AND APPOMATTOX BARREL HORSES
WERE VICTORIOUS.
